![]() "These Empty Days" (co-written with Crosby) His guitar playing is really great throughout. He seemed really involved with this project. Stills contributed a lot musically to the album, which is a plus for me. My feeling is that "Only Waiting For You" is the strongest (still not a five star song, in my opinion). Stills contributed four songs to the album: I'll try to explain my feelings a little more. It's taken me years to appreciate this one.Ĭlick to expand. We definitely see it differently. ![]() The non-promotion of the album combined with the lame cover and the slightly cheesy and at-times preachy lyrics made these guys seem very old to me at the time. It's a shame that label politics killed this one. Nothing else on the album approaches the simple beauty of these tunes and the production doesn't get too in the way this time. Having said that, Nash has written two classics: "These Empty Days" and "After The Storm". "Bad Boyz", for example, is a song that could really rock with a different production. There's some very strong singing that is just too polished, robbed of it's passion. The vocal harmonies don't have a lot of "air" as NY would say. Or it could be the way it was mixed? It reminds me of Brian Wilson's "Imagination". While it's much more organic than "Live It Up", it suffers from a very sleek professionalism which doesn't suit CSN IMHO. The songs are not the problem, it's the production. The only songs I don't like are: "Only Waiting For You", "Find A Dream" and the cover of "In My Life". This is a very good album that wasn't given a chance.
